Kamaluddin Mohammed, usually credited as Kamal, is a Malayali Indian film director. His first film was Mizhineer Pookkal in 1986 and to date, he has directed more than 32 movies, among which include 2 non-malayalam movies, one each in Tamil and Hindi. Apart from his role as a director, Kamal was recently elected as the general secretary of MACTA (Malayalam Cine Technicians Association). He is also the executive member of the Kerala Chalachitra Academy.
He is ranked as one of the top directors of Malayalam Cinema today. His films are popular for its music as well as the diversity in their theme. He has attempted and become successful in several genres of movies like comedy, romance, campus, drama, action etc. His prominent movies like Unnikale Oru Katha Parayam, Kakkothikavile Appooppan Thadikal, Thoovalsparsham, Paavam Paavam Rajakumaran, Ulladakam, Ee Puzhayam Kadannu, Meghamalhar, Madhuranombarakaattu, Perumazhakkalam are considered milestone movies in Malayalam Cinema. His interest in film-making led him to enroll at the Kalabharathi Film Institute in Thrissur.

Kamaluddin better known as Kamal is a director well known among the Malayali community around the world.
He was the eldest of three sons born to his parents K M Abdul Majeed and his wife Sulaikhabi. Kamal married his uncle’s daughter Saburabi; they were blessed by, a daughter Hanna Kamal and a son Januse Mohammed.
