Athirappilly and Vazhachal Waterfalls:
Athirappilly and Vazhachal, the two scenic and popular waterfalls on the edge of the Sholayar forest ranges are just 5 km apart. Athirappally is located 78 kms from Kochi, located at the entrance to Sholayar ranges; this waterfall is a popular picnic spot. Starting calmly from the height of 80 ft and crashing through gorges overhung with trees, these waterfall is one of the best places. It re-captures a real sense of the classicalidea of the "Picturesque"...not just calm and sweet, but something wild and natural.
Vazhachal is a picturesque spot just a short drive from Athirapally and is adjacent to dense green forestland. Vazhachal is part of the Chalakkudy River. Both the waterfalls, their cool, misty waters cascading down in the backdrop of thick green forest and rocky terrain, are a scintillating experience to visitors.
Chethalayam Waterfalls:
Located 12 kms from Sulthan Bathery on the Pulpalli Main Road, are the breathtakingly beautiful Chethalayam Waterfalls. At a distance of around 4 kms from Chethalayam, Wayanad the Wildlife Sanctuary covers over 344-sq. km, also known as Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary is another tourist spot. Here you can see elephants, spotted deer, guar, sambhar and slothbear.
Thommankuth Waterfalls:
Thommankuth waterfalls are another marvellous wonder of the nature situated at 74 kms from Cochin and is a small and beautiful, wild waterfall. This is a seven step waterfall and which is an ideal place for natural lovers. At each step there is a cascade and a pool beneath. At each step, there is a fall and a pool beneath to enjoy the panoramic beauty; the best way is to undertake a walk that takes one to the top of the mountain, a 12 km. climb. These falls are a sight to be seen and experienced. It is wet evergreen forests which are storehouse of medicinal plants and there are about 180 species and these are many wild relatives of the cultivated plants.
Thusharagiri Waterfalls:
One of the most beautiful waterfalls in Malabar region of Kerala is in Thsharagiri and it is considered as the major tourist destination in Malabar region with three water falls right in the middle of the forest. "Thusharagiri" literally means "snow capped mountains”. As the name suggests, land and water have struck an extraordinary kinship at Thusharagiri (mist capped peaks). The waterfalls on the backdrop of the Western Ghats provide an exhilarating and spellbinding sight to the visitor. Two streams originating
from the Western Ghats meet here to form the Chalippuzha River. The river diverges into three waterfalls creating a snowy spray, which gives the name, 'Thusharagiri'. The highest waterfall is the Thenpara (honey hill) that falls from an altitude of 75 metres which is situated at Kodencherry in Kozhikode.
Palaruvi Watefalls:
This waterfall falls in the border of Kerala and Tamilnadu. Its access is 35 kilometers east of Punalur on the Quilon - Shenkottah road. It is near Ariankavu mountain pass. 5 kilometers away is the amazing Palaruvi waterfall at an attitude of 300 ft. with smaller cascades nearby. There you can see skeleton of ancient temples. The water is said to be medicated as it flows down from the forest and is said to be a defensive for many diseases.
Cheeyapara Waterfalls:
The Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls are located between Narimangalam and Adimali on the kochi-Madurai highway. The Cheeyapara waterfalls surge down in seven steps. It is a real feast for the eyes.
